Common interests may center upon spiritual development, shared hobbies, social interaction, or any mix of the three. We have grouped ours into Affinity Groups, which focus more on social interaction and hobbies and Study Groups, which focus more on spiritual development and fellowship. Often, these groups are the best introduction to our community. Non-church members are always welcome to visit a life group.
The Episcopal Church calls dinner groups “foyer groups” because the word foyer means welcome. The concept of St. Patrick’s foyer groups is simple. We form groups of 8-10 people in the fall of the year and meet to share food, and our lives, with each other. The gatherings are informal and the members of each group make their own schedule. New groups will be formed in September. Put this on your to-do list to join a fun group of people for food and fellowship.
These weekly breakfasts came out of a recognition that retired men who have identified themselves through their work in life and have been used to dealing with people on a regular basis, tend to find themselves out of sorts when they retire, having difficulty with self identity and a need for greater socialization. This group started when three or four met for breakfast one Friday morning. They liked it so much that they decided meet regularly and invite other retired men from the Lake Norman community to join. Meetings are every Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. just to visit and spin yarns.
Appetizers Book Club
All ladies who share a love of good books, good food and good times are invited to join this book club. There are no other requirements for membership! We are a secular book club and choose a new book each month from bestseller lists, book reviews and member suggestions. Even if you haven’t had a chance to read or finish the book, come anyway. We will share our opinions and keep the ending a secret (if we can!). We meet the second Wednesday of the month at rotating locations.
Mom’s Night Out
Everyone needs a break – especially Moms of young children! Join us for a guilt-free excuse to go have fun with other Moms in the church. We are trying to meet monthly; however, this group is just being organized. Watch for emails detailing a time and place. Let Kristen know if you have any suggestions for Moms’ Night Out.
Episcopal Church Women (ECW)
All women of Saint Patrick’s are invited to join Episcopal Church Women. Our members are of all ages, ethnic origins and socioeconomic backgrounds, sharing a variety of points of view. However, our common denominator is love of God and the wish to do His work. Centered in congregations, we empower women to do Christ’s ministry in the world. We meet on the first Monday of every month at 1:00 p.m.
Viva Senior’s Group
We are an activity group for seniors that provides opportunities for fun, fellowship and friendship, including arranging group trips to places of interest that are reasonably easy to travel to. Such places may be of artistic, historical or other value and trips to them are always stimulating and enjoyable.
